Forgiveness

Forgiveness

As we start the new year, it is very important we don’t carry any baggage from 2021 to 2022! It’s time to reset and have a fresh start.

Is there someone in your life you haven’t been able to forgive?

If so, now is the time to ask the Lord to show you how to truly let go and release the person (or persons) into His loving care.

We only hold ourselves hostage when we refuse to forgive. It isn’t that we forget the hurt we experienced, but when we forgive, we remember the offense in a “healing way!” It then allows us to love more freely and embrace the present with a new perspective.

I love how Nathan the prophet lovingly confronted King David about his sin with Bathsheba. Thankfully, David fully repented and poured his heart into the writing of Psalm 51. He was totally forgiven, and in the New Testament, he was referred to as “the man after God’s own heart.”

I leave you with this exhortation from Scripture: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”  (Ephesians 4:32) NIV

Good Questions

Good Questions

I know 2021 has been a difficult and sad year for many. There are so many unanswered questions and uncertainty about the future.

But as we lean into the Lord as He lovingly guides us into 2022, perhaps we can reflect on a few heart-provoking questions.

  1. What am I the most grateful for in my life right now?
  2. What is the most valuable lesson I have learned in 2021?
  3. How can I pay it forward to help others who are hurting and needing support and encouragement?

I hope this next year will bring new meaning into your life and that this verse will give you hope:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) NIV

I hope this “golden nugget” encourages you today.

Tender Feelings

Tender Feelings

Are you personally suffering a recent pregnancy loss or know someone who has? During the holiday season the sadness can be overwhelming when it is supposed to be a joyous season. You may have had a recent miscarriage, perhaps you’re hurting after an abortion, or having difficulty getting pregnant.

If you haven’t experienced this type of loss, you may want to be sensitive to someone you know who has and needs extra encouragement and love. All the tender feelings are exacerbated during the holidays especially when families gather together to celebrate. It’s hard to join in when the pain and sorrow is palpable.

Sometimes just acknowledging the loss can be the first step towards healing and letting others share in your grief.

A comforting Scripture to bring some hope: “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7

I hope this “golden nugget” encourages you today.

Bear One Another’s Burdens

Bear One Another’s Burdens

Are you personally suffering a loss or know someone who has recently lost someone very dear?

Holidays can be very sad and stressful when loved ones are no longer with us. As we navigate the holiday season we all need to be aware of those around us who are hurting. Consider reaching out with an encouraging call, card, or offer to meet for coffee. Sometimes knowing someone else cares makes all the difference and lessens the pain just a little.

We are called in Scripture to “bear one another’s burdens.” Families are used to gathering together during the holidays, and when there is that empty seat at the table, it can be very lonely as the grief and loss is much more apparent during the holidays.

I particularly like this Scripture that says it best:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 NIV

I hope this “golden nugget” encourages you today!

If Only

If Only

Do you ever get stuck saying, “If only I had done…” or “If only I didn’t do…”?

If we stay in the “if only” rut, we are living in the past. If we continue dwelling in the “if only” rut, we are prone to depression.  Many of us live with regrets from the past we can do nothing about in our present life. We can pray we will make better decisions going forward and have fewer regrets in our future.

It’s important to pray every day for God to guide and keep you on the right path. We are not perfect, just forgiven if we know the Lord personally. I think this Scripture says it best:

Forget the former things; do not dwell in the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:18-20 NIV

I hope this “golden nugget” encourages you today!
